the portrait

Each portrait is hand painted with acrylic on 1.5” deep archival quality cotton canvas. Canvas sizes start from 10”x10” and go up to 40”x40. There are many sizes in between including squares and rectangles. The sizes mentioned below are the most popular. Just let me know what you’re looking for and I’ll find the best size to suit your needs!

Each piece is unique and is a collaboration between you and me. I am open to all of your ideas for how you envision your finished piece to look. And if you have no idea, dont worry! I will help you create a wonderful portrait!

Depending on my schedule and the type of portrait, it takes one to four weeks to complete. If you have a special deadline (birthday, anniversary gift) I will do my best to have it done by that date.

Often people with multiple pets want them on one canvas. There is an additional fee for each additional pet added to a single canvas. I will essentially be doing multiple portraits and the work time increases accordingly. Another popular option is to do a couple of small matching canvases for each pet and hang them together. Makes a great little collection!

to get started

I work directly from your photograph so the first thing would be to send me your favorite shot. Send me your favorite photo and one you think would make a good portrait. Ideally the image should be properly exposed with plenty of detail in the face. The better the photo, the better the portrait.

If you’re going to take some shots, here are some tips: Try to get down to your pets eye level so you’re not looking down at them. Get on the floor with them or put them on a chair. And natural light is best. Outside in the shade, sunlight that’s not super harsh, or indoors near a window.

A larger file size is ideal since I will need to be able to print it out. If you’re not sure about an image or if you like a few different ones, then send them all. The more optiions the better!

After we decide on what photo to go with then we figure out the size of the canvas, composition and what kind of background you want. Once I’ve started, you’re ready to send your 50% deposit. I will keep you updated throughout the process. When I’m about done I will eamil you a photo of the piece for your approval and you can let me know if there is anything you would like me to change. When you totally love it I ship it off and you send me the remaing balance with additional shipping.
